Below are common questions and answers about 1099 tax forms for creators. For more information on how to set up your tax information and payouts, see our help article Setting Up Payouts.
What do I need to receive a 1099 form?
Whether you receive a 1099 form depends on if you elected to have taxes withheld on your W-9 when you set up your tax information with GRIN.
If you did elect to have taxes withheld on your W-9, then you will always receive a 1099 form.
If you did not elect to have taxes withheld, then you will only receive a 1099 if you meet both of the following conditions:
- You've made at least $600.00 USD in the tax year through GRIN (Earnings only include payments made within the platform, not offline payments or product gifting)
AND
- You did not elect as one of the following tax classifications:
- C-Corporation
- S-Corporation
- LLCs that elect treatment as an S-Corporation or C-Corporation
When will I receive my 1099 forms?
You will receive 1099s in Janurary. If you are a non-U.S. Resident, your 1042S forms will be issued in March.
Do the 1099s come from brands or GRIN?
All 1099s will come from GRIN.
How and where will the tax forms be sent?
The 1099 tax form will be sent to either:
- The mailing address you supplied when filling out your W-9 or W-8BEN, or
- The email you provided when filling out your W-9 or W-8BEN
For more information, see our help article Setting Up Payouts.
Can I view my 1099s on my Live Site?
Yes, any 1099s that you've received should appear in your Live Site's Payouts tab underneath where you originally filled out your W-9 tax form.
Will I receive multiple 1099 forms if I work with multiple brands?
No, you'll receive one 1099 from GRIN regardless of how many brands you're are working with.
Are brands able to receive a copy of my 1099?
No. Because 1099s are private tax information and you may work with multiple brands, individual brands cannot get a copy.
Do I receive 1099s if I'm a non-US resident?
Because 1099s are U.S.-specific, international creators will not receive 1099s. If you're working with a brand and you're outside the U.S., it's up to that brand's to determine their legal obligation to deliver any tax forms to you.
What taxes are withheld?
You determine what is withheld when filling out your W-9s or W-8BENs.
How do I edit my 1099 information?
Navigate to your Live Site > Account Settings > Payout Information, where you can update their existing W-9 or W-8BEN. Because 1099s are official forms, you cannot retroactively change the information.
