Each conversion in GRIN has a verification status, shown in the Verified column of your Conversions tables (for example, in your activation's Conversions tab). This status tells you how much evidence GRIN has that a conversion is genuine before you pay commission on it.
Verification confirms two things wherever GRIN can:
Does the order really exist in your connected ecommerce store?
Is the referral backed by evidence, meaning a recorded click on the creator's affiliate link before the order, or a discount code that was active when the order was placed?
You can hover over any status badge to see a short explanation of why a conversion received that status.
What each status means
Verified
The order was confirmed in your connected store and the referral is backed by evidence. For link conversions, a click was recorded before the order (click-through confirmed). For discount-code conversions, the code was active at the time the order was placed.
Warning
The order is real and valid, but one check could not be fully confirmed. This happens in two cases: no preceding click was found for a link conversion (the sale exists, but there is no click-through evidence tying it to the link), or the reported amount diverged from the actual order amount.
A Warning does not necessarily mean fraud, but we recommend reviewing these conversions before paying commission, especially if a creator has an unusual number of them.
Failed
A real problem was found with the conversion. The order does not exist in your connected store (after a retry window), the discount code was inactive or expired when it was used, or the affiliate link had expired.
Review Failed conversions carefully before paying. If a conversion is not legitimate, you can void it.
API
The conversion came in through the GRIN API or a bulk import, which intentionally bypasses the tracking pixel (for example, custom integrations). Click-based checks do not apply to these conversions.
Unverified
No verification was run, or verification does not apply to this conversion. You will mostly see this on older conversions that were already paid or settled before the verification criteria were introduced. An Unverified status on historical conversions is expected and does not indicate a problem.
How verification affects payments
Verification statuses are designed to inform your payment decisions. Conversions with commission still owed are tiered by status on the payments screen, so you can prioritize paying Verified conversions and review Warning or Failed ones first.
Verification does not automatically void conversions or block payments. You stay in control. To remove an illegitimate conversion, void it manually.
FAQ
Why do some of my older conversions say Unverified?
The verification statuses were applied to conversions with commission still due. Conversions that were already paid or settled keep the Unverified badge. This is expected.
A conversion shows Warning, but I know the sale is real. What happened?
The most common cause is a missing click record: the customer may have purchased without a recent click on the creator's link, or the store setup does not record clicks (for example, some headless storefronts). The order itself is real. The Warning only means GRIN could not confirm the click-through.
Does a Verified status guarantee the conversion is legitimate?
It is the strongest signal GRIN has: the order exists in your store and the referral is backed by click or code evidence. As always, void anything you believe is not genuine.
Can I filter by verification status?
Yes. Use the Filter and Columns tools at the top of your Conversions table.
